Research summary
The overarching aim of this study is to support women from Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) to abstain from smoking throughout their pregnancy, to protect themselves from the harms of smoking, but most importantly to protect the health of the unborn baby. The study sets out to better understand the experience of pregnant women receiving free E-cigarettes as an addition to their usual smoking cessation treatment using a qualitative approach. Furthermore, it also aims to identify what role the E-cigarettes play in encouraging pregnant women to better engage with the service.\n\nThis may also provide insights and considerations for future similar programmes, contributing to the body of evidence around smoking cessation in pregnancy, especially with regards to e-cigarettes which is a relatively new and evolving field of research. Gaining a better understanding of these women’s experiences is important and necessary, especially with regards to policy formulation, service development and strategic commissioning across smoking cessation services. \n
