Research summary
Hospice in the Weald (HitW), Kent has planned a new way of giving care to people approaching the end of life and their family caregivers called ‘Cottage Hospice’. The HitW team want to study the processes involved in planning, building, opening and running the new scheme. They will be working with a research team from the International Observatory on End of Life Care in a participatory action research study over the next two years. People involved in developing Cottage Hospice will become active participants in the research. They will identify the issues to be addressed, generate solutions, and develop knowledge and skills. This will help them to work with others to improve end of life care in the local area. We plan to share the study results widely by writing articles and giving conference presentations in the UK and in Europe so that others can learn from our experiences.
