Research summary
The ICECAP-Supportive Care Measure (ICECAP-SCM) is a self-complete economic tool for evaluating end of life care interventions. This study aims to determine the feasibility of using the ICECAP-SCM in patients on the organ failure trajectory. Patients with end-stage heart failure, end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and end-stage renal disease will be recruited through Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Birmingham. Patients recruited in the study are expected to meet relevant prognostic and eligibility criteria. The research will be restricted to direct participation. The ICECAP-SCM will be used alongside the EQ-5D-5L and ICECAP-A measures. During the interview, patients will be asked to verbalise their thoughts while filling the various measures. The interview will be recorded, transcribed and examined for defined errors. A short semi-structured interview will follow the think-aloud process and further clarification will be sought from the patient on unclear responses.
