Research summary
The main aim of this study is the development, design, testing and ultimately adoption of new technology in stroke rehabilitation. The study aims to measure the feasibility of implementing virtual reality as an upper limb rehab method for stroke patients in an acute stroke unit. The feasibility and acceptability of implementing VR as a new upper limb rehab method will be assessed using questionnaires with 1) participants to assess the acceptability of using VR as an upper limb rehab method and to gain information re: technology readiness of patients and 2) with staff to measure the usability of virtual reality and implementation of it as a treatment modality in stroke rehabilitation. The study also aims assess the effect of using virtual reality with stroke patients to improve upper limb function, promote self-efficacy, improve quality of life and increase intensity of rehab sessions.
