  • Data collection arrangements

The UK Colorectal Cancer Intelligence Hub is creating a secure data repository called CORECT-R. This will contain a huge array of data from across the cancer pathways of diagnosis, treatment and outcome. \n\nThe data in which individuals can be identified will be stored in a highly secure environment inside Public Health England with extremely limited access. De-identified data will be taken from this area to be held in the University of Leeds where it can be analysed by researchers from across the UK.

  • Research programme

Bowel cancer is a major public health problem. Each year over 41,000 people are diagnosed with the disease and 16,000 die from it. Despite huge investment in care and research there remains major variations in diagnosis, treatment and outcome.\n\nThere are existing datasets covering all aspects of care, which could be used to improve cancer outcomes. However, access for researchers to link and exploit these data is limited. The UK Colorectal Cancer Intelligence Hub will solve this by robustly linking multiple electronic data sources and making data available for research. The intelligence produced will underpin patient choice and help individuals reduce their risk of disease and access the best care.
