  • Data collection arrangements

Patients with known or presumed heart disease attending the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (or data collection centre) will be approached to enrol in the research database.

The data to be collected will include:
    1. Baseline demographic information (e.g., age, gender, height, weight, medical history).
    2. Heart electrical tracings (including storage of digitalised electrocardiograms).
    3. Laboratory test results (including markers of heart disease and genetic sequencing). Blood testing will occur solely for research purposes and will be ordered at the time of blood drawing (i.e. there will be no storage of blood for testing at a later date).
    4. Heart imaging data (including echocardiography, Cardiac CT, Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance). The results, alongside linked-anonymised raw images, will be stored. Patients may be invited to under serial (non-ionising) cardiovascular imaging.
    5. Results of invasive angiography performed for clinical purposes (including results from pressure wire studies and invasive imaging).
    6. Data relating to clinically-indicated procedures and operations that the patient has undergone.
    7. Patient questionnaires.
    8. Relevant clinical information held within national databases and registries, including data managed by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (NHS Digital) and the Office for National Statistics.
    9. Follow up data collected at a later timepoint.

  • Research programme

There are several key disease processes that will form the focus of the database. This includes heart artery disease, heart muscle disease, valve disease, heart failure, heart rhythm disorders and circulatory disease. The research database will focus on the use of serial heart imaging and longitudinal follow up (i.e. the patients will typically be offered interval cardiovascular imaging after recruitment).
