  • Research summary

This project aims to describe how NHS audiologists engage with their patient’s emotional needs during audiology appointments.\nThis will be achieved by:\n\n1. Recruiting NHS audiologists participants\n2. Recruiting patients so that the appointment and clinical interaction can be observed\n3. The appointment will be observed and the observer will audio-record the dialogue and take field notes in regards to non-verbal communication (tone of voice, posture, “body language“).\n4. The field notes and audio-recordings will then be transcribed for analysis via conversation analysis and constant comparison methods\n5.The analysis will then yield an in-depth description of the clinical interaction with clear indicators where emotion-focused communication was or was not in alignment.\n\n\n \n\n
