Research summary
Endometriosis is a chronic, incurable condition that affects about 10% of women of reproductive age. It is defined as a growth of cells similar to the womb lining outside of the womb in the pelvis, and is associated with chronic pelvic
pain, excessive period pain, pain with sexual intercourse and difficulties in getting pregnant. People who have endometriosis often suffer from pain "flares". This is an increase in pain at random times. Why these flares happen is unknown and little research has been carried out. We will carry out a small feasibility study looking at how we can monitor patients over a period of 12 weeks and get them to self-collect samples and answer questionnaires to see if we can see patterns or triggers for these pain flares. This will give us information in how to run a larger trial in the future which may help us personalise care for people with endometriosis.REC name
