Research summary
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) leads to the progressive destruction of parts of the brain. This disease is transmitted by infectious proteins which can remain on reusable surgical instruments, even after cleaning and sterilisation. This research will use human tissues recovered from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease patients to develop new detection, diagnosis and decontamination technologies. The Endodecon project aims particularly at the decontamination of flexible luminal endoscopes, which are particularly difficult to clean.
