Research summary
This study will look at the effect of the endothelial function (the function of the inner lining of blood vessels which acts to constrict or dilate the vessels) on the development of acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery. Endothelial function of diabetic patients will be compared to non-diabetic patients. Endothelial function will be measured before surgery and markers of acute kidney injury (such as creatinine) will be measured after surgery.
