Research summary
Endometriosis is a complex pain condition that affects about 1.5 million individuals in the UK. It is defined as a growth of cells similar to the womb lining outside of the womb in the pelvis, and is associated with chronic pelvic pain, fatigue and other symptoms. Pain and fatigue are the most commonly reported symptoms and can have a significant impact on quality of life. At the moment research has focussed on used patient-reported outcome measures and these are usually in the form of questionnaires. We would like to see if we can use Smartwatch and online technology to monitor symptoms. To do this, will ask the participants to complete baseline questionnaires and pain and fatigue scores. They will then wear a Smartwatch for six weeks at a time. We will ask them to do this three times throughout a twelve month period. During each six week cycle, we will ask them to send us daily pain and fatigue scores online (a prompt will be sent to them every day via their mobile phone. At the end of each six week cycle, we will ask them to complete quality of life questionnaires. Once they have completed the trial, we will ask them to complete an acceptability questionnaire asking about their experience in the study. We will then analyse the data that we get from the Smartwatch, online and questionnaires.
