  • Research summary

The project consists of an evaluation of interventions which were developed and implemented at St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in order to improve end of life care (EoLC) at the Trust, following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) report in 2016.

The overall aim of the evaluation is to identify the effectiveness of these interventions at the Trust, before and during COVID-19. The evaluation aims to address the following questions for the EoLC interventions, before and during COVID-19
    - To what extent are professionals directly involved in EoLC aware of and engaged with the interventions?
    - To what extent do professionals directly involved in EoLC value the interventions?
    - What is the perception of professionals directly involved in EoLC about the impact of the interventions for staff, patients and those important to the patients?
    - What is the perception of professionals directly involved in EoLC about the sustainability of the interventions?
    - What is the perception of professionals directly involved in EoLC about the impact of COVID-19 on the interventions?
    - What is the perception of professionals directly involved in EoLC about the effectiveness of each intervention on EoLC provided during COVID-19?

Data will be collected online from professionals directly involved in end of life care at the Trust through questionnaires, interviews and focus groups. The findings from the evaluation will help improve the interventions, leading to enhanced EoLC, and will enable the Trust to decide how best invest their resources in the future. In addition, the findings will be disseminated at research conferences and through publications, aiming to contribute to the wider community.
