Research summary
Our study consists of five work packages to evaluate the impact of the UKs first Safer Drug Consumption Facility (SDCF) on health, social, community, environmental, and economic outcomes. The study is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and involves collaboration between Glasgow Caledonian University, University of Stirling, University of Glasgow, University of Bristol, Scottish Drugs Forum, and the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) health board. Much of the evaluation occurs outside of NHS settings and seperate ethical approvals are being sought for these components.
This application relates to the process evaluation work package (WP1). WP1 aims to understand issues around implementation, users' experiences of service engagement, barriers and facilitators to delivery, and the role of context in shaping intervention delivery and outcomes. A qualitative approach will be used to collect data over 4 years (2025-2029). We will conduct qualitative interviews with service users recruited within the facility and eligible non service users recruited from other service providers in Glasgow, as well as service staff and providers of other relevant services in Glasgow.
