Research summary
The project is titled 'Efficacy of Vein Sheath in Peripheral Nerve Repair'.
The aim of the project is to review patients who have had the Vein sheath procedure, for long term outcome (1-4yrs) assessment.
Vein sheathing is essentially an adjunctive procedure, using a segment of vein to sheath the nerve repair. It is aimed to prevent neuroma formation and to improve results of standard surgical repair of cut or injured peripheral nerves in the forearm and hand. We have prospectively collected data on a small cohort of 19 patients who have had this procedure over the last 5 years and been discharged from the hospital following satisfactory outcome.
We now wish to recall these patients for a long term review of clinical results either by physical attendance in Out Patient Clinics or through a telephonic survey if they are unable to attend.
The clinical review is for patient outcome satisfaction, pain score and objective assessment of nerve recovery through standard examination techniques. For those on the telephonic survey, they will be asked about outcome satisfaction and pain scores.
The results will be compiled and presented as Long term outcome of patients who have undergone this adjunctive procedure of Vein-sheathing of injured peripheral nerves.REC name
