Research summary
Cardiovascular Disease is a key priority for Public Health. It is essential we understand how effective the interventions are and how we can use research to inform developments and improvements. This project will identify two Salford GP practices that are delivering the NHS Health Checks programme focusing on the effectiveness of the programme. One will be a high performing practice and the other a mid performing practice. This will be determined by the percentage of NHS check completed in relation to the eligible patients. From these practices, patients identified as high risk of cardiovascular disease as a result of the Health Check will be invited to participate. Five patients from each practice will be interviewed 6 weeks post NHS Health check. The interviews will be a semi structured format and focused on what changes have occurred for the patient since the NHS Health check, showing the patient’s pathway and the effectiveness of the check. This will include referrals, medication, lifestyle advice and any behaviour change that has occurred. This information will be self reported by the patient at the interview.
