  • Research summary

Cochlear Implants (CI) are well established in the management of children and adults with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss. NICE in 2009 supported that the procedure was both clinically and cost effective but purely on health grounds. The question that we propose to address is look at the potential impact on educational and subsequent employment that a CI has had, together with quality of life outcomes.
Patients enrolled will be adults who have received a single CI after the age of 18 years. All patients are currently under the care of the Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service based at Bradford Royal Infirmary NHS Teaching Foundation Trust.
The study will involve a postal questionnaire distributed to eligible patients that have been obtained from the departmental patient record database. The study is proposed to be completed within a 12 month period.
