Research summary
This study aims to develop a clinical profile of the colonising micro-organisms found upon tracheostomy tubes removed from ICU patients. This forms part of a wider research project with aims to develop clinical guidelines and new technologies to improve patient care. The collection procedure and downstream analysis will be conducted in a collaboration between MDT members from ENT, microbiology services and pharmacy within EKHUFT and researchers from the University of Kent. The initiative has been co-funded by the University of Kent, The Kent Cancer Trust and the EPSRC.
