Research summary
The aim of this research is to establish whether the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) profile and the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) scores at the end of the Reception year lead to an earlier identification of children with potential Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), earlier access to intervention and reduce inequity in provision of assessment and at each intervention. This will be established by screening the 'at risk' of autism population based on results from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) profile using the Social Communication questionnaire (SCQ) with the view to provide a quicker pathway for children with autism to be identified as early as possible. We aim to assess whether the combination of EYFS profile to establish ‘at risk’population and subsequently the SCQ use in the 'at risk' of autism children can be used as a stepped care screening process which can help provide us with an earlier assessment, diagnosis and intervention.
