  • Research summary

As there are more and more children and young people living longer with complex health care needs, it is important to think about and develop ways to support families to care for children and young people to stay at home. One way to do this is to use technology to help support families to communicate with health and social care professionals when they are at home. This project has been designed to engage with families and professionals to help inform the content and development of an electronic supportive care system to support children and young people who have no formal diagnosis for their complex and exceptional health care needs and their families when at home. The key goals of the project are to:

    • Understand the care pathways for children and young people who have no formal diagnosis for their complex and exceptional health care needs and their families.
    • Understand what the supportive care needs of these families are by speaking to people and asking them to complete a questionnaire.
•Understand the ways technology might be able to help with the supportive care needs of these families by speaking to people and asking them to complete a questionnaire.
    • Use the feedback from people to inform the content of an e-Supportive care system.
    • Identify the appropriate types of technology that will support the content and use of the e-Supportive care system in a future Phase II of this work.
