Research summary
This project is investigating the length of time respiratory viruses are detectable from nose and throat swabs in cystic fibrosis children using routine DNA polymerase chain reaction(PCR) technology. A nose and throat swab is taken from the patients on a routine clinic appointment and is sent to the laboratory for testing. Following receipt into the laboratory and obtaining the results, any patients whose results indicate a viral infection will be retested and swabbed on a weekly basis until the virus is no longer detectable by PCR technology.
