Research summary
Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a genetically transmitted neurodevelopmental condition associated with intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety and behavioural problems. Individuals with FXS tend to have particular deficits in working memory, which is the type of memory used to hold and utilise information within the mind for a limited amount of time.
Research has indicated that an adaptive computerised working memory intervention called Cogmed may be a useful working memory intervention for people with other forms of intellectual disability. This pilot study aims to investigate whether Cogmed is also suitable for individuals with FXS. Firstly we want to investigate whether they can complete the program and if they can whether there are any beneficial or adverse effects of doing so.
