Research summary
In the UK, 1 in 10 of all cases of active TB is found in someone from a " hard to reach"group such as a homeless person. Screening for and treating TB bacteria whilst in a latent form will reduce the number of active TB cases. NICE guidance recommends active case finding in groups such as the homeless and NHS Grampian TB service plans to introduce a new screening and treatment service for LTBI for the homeless.
This study will consider the feasibility of the proposed screening and treatment service model and explore the barriers to and enablers for particpiation.
Firstly focus groups will be conducted with potential users of the service and then with the staff who work with the participants at the two study sites to identify key barriers and enablers to service use in the design.
Secondly, semi structured interviews will be offered with study participants prior to and following engaging with the service to establish their views on the barriers to and enablers for this service model from those who may be involved in it.Findings from the study will inform any future service development across Grampian.REC name
