  • Data collection arrangements

We intend to create a collection of gynaecological cancer and other malignant and benign control tissues including ascites, blood, urine and primary surgical tissues as well as blood and urine donations from healthy volunteers. This collection of tissue will be used for research into improving the outlook for women with gynaecological cancers. Suitable patients will be approached by trained members of their healthcare team or trained members of the BGTB team to discuss and gain informed consent. These same members will be responsible for the collection and storage of tissues and routine anonymised clinical data.

  • Research programme

The human tissue is primarily collected from patients treated at Barts and currently supports several research programmes at the Barts Cancer Institute. These include research into adenoviral gene therapy and chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer (Dr Lockley - CRUK), modelling the human omentum in high grade serous ovarian cancer (Prof Balkwill - ERC) and identifying new treatments for mismatch repair deficient endometrial cancer (Dr Sarah Martin – Wellbeing of Women). Our tissue is also utilised by researchers at other academic institutes including University College London and the Francis Crick Institute as well as industrial collaborators.
