Data collection arrangements
Samples and data will be collected and stored at Southmead Hospital with appropriate NHS clinical governance and security, in line with the Human Tissue Act and Data Protection Act.
Nervous system tissue removed during surgery for diagnosis or treatment of a neurological disorder and blood collected before or after surgery (if samples are being collected for clinical pruposes). Blood collected at follow-up clinics monitoring disease progression ( if samples are being collected for clinical purposes). The value of biological tissue samples is greatly enhance by access to clinical data, particularly demographics, treatment protocols, progression free survival and overall survival. The Archival collection aims to collate this data and provide to researchers subject to appropriate consent by patients, anonymised where necessary.Research programme
A range of research projects utilise tissue from the Archival nervous system tissue and blood collection within the fields of basic and translational neuro-oncology: 1)chemosensitivity to test efficacy of current and novel cancer therapy agents 2)identifying serum markers which indicate prognosis/best treatment 3)analysis of molecular/genetic markers which may indicate prognosis/best treatment 4)tissue culture to develop/provide near-in-vivo research models and cell lines 5)identifying histological markers whichmay indicate prognosis/best treatment
