Research summary
Dry mouth is a common symptom which causes distress and impairs daily life. The purpose of this study is to understand the experience of the symptom of dry mouth for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
It aims to recruit 10 to 15 people with dry mouth and COPD, identified during routine clinical screening, at the start of locally delivered pulmonary rehabilitation courses in Cornwall.
Participants will take part in semi-structured interviews, lasting no longer than one hour, in a location convenient to both them and the researcher. Key themes will be identified from the interviews
Findings will increase empathy and understanding among health care professionals working with people with COPD regarding dry mouth and contribute to the drive for effective and appropriate treatments for this distressing condition.REC name
