Research summary
The purpose of this study is to perform a DELPHI study to investigate key stakeholders (patients who have undergone TKR, patients awaiting TKR, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, nursing staff, occupational therapists, Insurance companies and DVLA) views on return to driving post total knee replacement (TKR). From this we hope to generate a set of recommendations that patients need to have achieved before return to driving.
This is an online study and the people taking part are healthcare professionals, patients as well motor vehicle insurance professionals and the DVLA. This allows a diverse group of individuals to be able to provide their view points and generate themes for future research work.
In the study all participants will complete a round of three survey made up of a combination of questions and statements relating to TKR and driving. After every statement, people will be able to say how much they agree or disagree with the statement based on a Likert scale of importance (A score of 1 implies no importance at all. A score of 10 implies of paramount importance).
To make sure we identify and share the results with all key stakeholders, we will use both social media platforms such as 'X' (formerly twitter), as well as a high volume elective orthopaedic hospital to identify study participants and subsequently disseminate our results.
Ultimately we plan to publish this work in a medical journal and present it in local/ international conferences.
