Research summary
Aim:
To undertake national survey of patients with dementia to explore their views and opinions about driving related matters. This would replicate a previous national survey undertaken with patients with Parkinson’s disease with results compared and contrasted.Method:
A survey will be sent to volunteers with dementia who have signed-up to the NHS NIHR “Join Dementia Research” website (https://www.joindementiaresearch.nihr.ac.uk/).
Currently JDR has over 30,000 volunteers of which around 15-20% have a diagnosis of dementia (all types, any severity) Consent to approach is verified by JDR registration. Consent is assumed by self-completion of the proposed survey. Participants will be free to choose whether they wish to respond. Surveys will be returned anonymously.
Future:
Findings from the survey will be published and shared with key stakeholders as appropriate.
The results will have the potential to be relevant to NHS, DVLA, charities, patients and their families to inform future practice and processes.REC name
