Research summary
DOMINO Study; Diabetes in pregnancy Optimising Maternal and INfant Outcomes is a multi-centre observational study taking place within usual NHS Diabetes in Pregnancy care pathways. Pregnant women with type 1 and early onset type 2 diabetes (EOT2D) (diagnosis before age 40 years) who are 18 years and older. Participants n=400 women with type 1 diabetes and n=400 with EOT2D will be recruited to the observational study, from these participants as many as possible will be offered to have an optional blood sample at the time of delivery (maternal blood and cord blood), and (n=16) will be recruited for the Neonatal Feasibility sub-study and randomised into intervention or control groups. The primary objective of the T1D study is to identify what happens to maternal c-peptide levels during pregnancy in people with type 1. The primary outcome of the EOT2D cohort is to establish maternal glycaemia targets in pregnancy and the secondary outcomes are to identify modifiable risk factors for suboptimal outcomes.
