  • Research summary

The levels of cholesterol in the blood are known to decrease after gastric bypass surgery and the reasons for this are unclear. However, how absorbent the gut is and hence how much cholesterol is absorbed, may account for the decrease in cholesterol levels in the blood. This study will use a standard gut permeability Nuclear Medicine test (51CrEDTA) to see how permeable a patient’s gut is before and after gastric bypass surgery. Only patients with Type 2 diabetes will be included.
