Research summary
“Pain management specialists who declare that they will provide active support to the service when needed” is a requirement of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy for all their accredited centres, however the desire of the patients to have input from these services has not been researched. Guidelines produced by relevant bodies including the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists do not address the involvement of specialist pain teams in the management of endometriosis. There is no literature on whether patients want to engage with specialist pain teams, and the aim of this study is to find out whether they would, to enable improvement of patient care and use of resources. The aim of this study is to examine whether patients with severe endometriosis would like input from a pain management team, at what point in their treatment they would desire it and of what nature they would like it to be. We will prospectively survey patients newly referred to UCLH endometriosis centre and then analyse the data to answer the study question.
