Research summary
Prescribing of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) has increased in Scotland year on year since 2014, replacing warfarin as the anticoagulants of choice for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) and venous thromboembolism. The incidence of ICH has increased since 2019, and some of this may be due to increased use of anticoagulants.
To explore this, we will produce a linked dataset of all patients in Grampian dispensed DOACs from 2015 – 2023 and describe the incidence, characteristics and outcomes of those admitted to hospital with bleeding events. We aim to publish this.REC name
