Data collection arrangements
This project involves the collection of 10ml blood samples, or if the patient prefers, buccal swabs, from patients with idiopathic dystonia and control participants with no history of dystonia. Demographic details and details of dystonia will be recorded for patients using a questionnaire. The samples and data from patients and controls will be collected at the Neurology clinic at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital to allow the extraction of DNA at Sheffield Hallam University in order to carry out studies that will increase the understanding of the genetic factors involved in dystonia.
Research programme
It is envisaged that small research groups at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Sheffield Hallam University may want to access this tissue bank in the future (including applications from outside the 2 organisations). Any applications will be made, reviewed and approved by a scientific advisory board, who will ensure the correct conduct of the research studies and release of data and samples is in accordance with the Research Governance framework and HTA regulations.
