Research summary
The variety of organisations which provide NHS-funded services is getting wider. Besides existing NHS hospitals, GPs and other services they increasingly include private firms, social enterprises, voluntary organisations, corporations and others. The aim of this research is to explore the differences that exist between these different kinds of organisational types in the ways they manage and provide these services, and what differences result in terms of service quality, innovation and patients' experience. Those who commission NHS services will increasingly need to know how to select among the different types of organisation for different tasks. For each type, they will also need to known the best ways of managing its contribution and relationship to the NHS.
