Research summary
Assessing the inside of the nose and throat with a small telescope is a commonly performed procedure in the ENT clinic. Sometimes patients may experience discomfort or an odd sensation when this procedure is performed. Although many doctors apply local anaesthetic spray before performing this procedure previous research suggests that this actually has no impact on the discomfort levels during the procedure. In this study we want to run a pragmatic study to look at whether or not using a simple distraction technique during the procedure has more of an impact in reducing the discomfort levels than using local anaesthetic spray.
