  • Research summary

Trauma causes approximately one out of ten deaths with many due to bleeding. Death from bleeding occurs soon after injury and even short delays to treatment markedly worsen outcomes. Currently, clinicians use information gathered after the patient has arrived at hospital to plan the immediate resuscitation needs, but time would be saved if resources could be prepared sooner.
This project is a collaboration between trauma surgeons, the London Air Ambulance and Computer Scientists and aims to enhance the preparedness of the hospital’s trauma team for an incoming patient. We will share key information from the ambulance with the hospital team before the patient arrives so that the doctors can make critical decisions without delay. Additionally, we will explore the potential of integrating proven AI risk prediction algorithms into this communication stream, with the goal of augmenting situational awareness and supporting treatment decisions.
