Research summary
In this study we aim to explore the use of digital health interventions to manage physical health by adults diagnosed with a severe mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder who are currently using South London and Maudsley Trust (SLaM) mental health services. We also aim to determine the acceptability of digital health interventions that are currently used, how and why people use them, the facilitators and barriers to their use, and how their use impacts on people’s physical health and health service use. The study has three stages. Stage 1 is a survey for people using mental health services in SLaM to ask about their use of digital health interventions, Stage 2 is individual interviews with approximately 13 people to ask more indepth questions on the use of digital health interventions, and Stage 3 is stakeholder workshops with 20 participants. These participants will include people using services, carers, clinical staff, commissioners and policy planners to synthesise the findings and make recommendations for the use of digital interventions with people with severe mental illness for people using services, carers, clinical staff and health and other services.
