Research summary
We are conducting a research study about how brief bursts of physical activity that naturally occur during daily life (like climbing stairs or rushing to catch a bus) can benefit our health. These short bursts of activity, also known as physical activity micropatterns, typically last less than 3 minutes and are particularly helpful because they require no extra time or special equipment and can be easily integrated into daily routines. We want to work together with adults aged 40-75 from diverse backgrounds to understand their experiences with these types of activities and co-develop ways to incorporate more of these behaviours into our daily lives. Our study will involve participants completing surveys, joining workshop discussions, and a feasibility study, where we collect baseline movement data (7 days) using research and consumer-grade wearable devices, measuring movement behaviours over the 6-week intervention period. By including people from various backgrounds, we hope to create practical solutions to promote healthy physical activity behaviours across diverse communities.
