  • Research summary

We have shown that the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) can be supplemented with age, sex and blood test results to enhance its accuracy for predicting the risk of death and sepsis following unplanned admission to hospital and have successfully implemented a suite of computer-aided risk scores (CARS) in York NHS Trust (York hospital and Scarborough Hospitals) in the electronic health record. There is an urgent need to develop a suite of CARS in response to the covid-19 pandemic.
