Research summary
MRI is a technology that has been available for a number of years, however, MRI imaging sequences that utilise this technology continue to be developed with new advanced imaging sequences becoming available on a regular basis. Existing MRI imaging sequences also continue to improve and experience from other centres internationally provides information on how these sequences can be improved. Therefore, to allow improvements in clinical practice and research, testing on normal volunteers is required to ensure that the new or adjusted sequences provide the image quality expected. This ethics application will allow our department to run these normal volunteer studies enabling optimum patient diagnostics and research.
It is important to stress that MRI does not involve ionising radiation, is completely non-invasive and there are no replicated scientific studies showing health hazards associated with magnetic field exposure and no evidence for hazards associated with cumulative exposure to these fields.REC name
