Research summary
Microbiosensor is developing a simple device that can be used at the bedside of patients in clinic which, after introducing a sample of effluent fluid into the in vitro diagnostic device, will provide an instant digital readout confirming the level of a cells, including white blood cells (indicating infection). Some fluid will also be used to detect bacteria in the sample.
In the current application, Microbiosensor need to obtain and test effluent fluid from patients who are well (uninfected fluid), as well as those with suspected peritonitis, for testing fluid compatibility with the device and to optimise sensitivity with the detection system under development in the laboratory.
