  • Research summary

Mental health ranges from mental well-being at one end to severe mental health problems at the other, and it is important that the right type of support is available to children and young people (and their families) wherever they fall between these two points. At the moment in the UK we know that there are gaps in services, which means that sometimes children are not getting the right help at the right time.
The aim of this study is to understand the services and support that are needed in the East of England to prevent children and young people from developing emotional health problems in the first place and to help as soon as possible when they do happen.
We will work with children/young people, parents and professionals to collect their ideas and opinions about what types of services and support are important to them. We will then identify which aspects of service delivery are important to all of the groups and which are important only to a specific group. We will do this using a mixture of interviews and questionnaires.
At the end of this study we hope to have identified the aspects of services that children/young people, parents and professionals think are key to supporting the emotional health of children and young people in the region. We will present these results to policy makers and commissioners so that they can be used to shape decisions about what services are available in the East on England in the future.
