  • Data collection arrangements

    The purpose of the Dermatology Biobank is to support research into dermatological andmelanocyte derived diseases,with the overall aim of improving diagnostic accuracy, identify new drug targets and develop new test to predict or monitor response to treatment. Samples are obtained from patients only after informed
    consent.   
    Donors have the right to withdraw consent at any time after the
    samples have been 
    collected (appendix 1b of the protocol). Samples and data are storedin secure and
    alarmed locations in Dermatological Sciences, Institute of Cellular 
    Medicine,  Newcastle University.  No data is released to research teams which
    could 
    identify the donor

  • Research programme

    Samples stored in the Dermatology Biobank can be obtained for research by teams basedanywhere in the world (appendix 1a of protocol). However, donors will be asked if they would want their samples to be retained in the UK.  Research projects include those at increasing our understanding of the causes of disease, improving the  accuracy of diagnosis and improving ways in which diseases can be treated. Details ofthe current research projects supported by the Newcastle Dermatology Biobank are given on our website http://www.ncl.ac.uk/icm/research/dermatology/
