Research summary
This is a study to see whether a new intervention is feasible for healthcare professionals to use in general practices. The intervention includes a new type of breath test for healthcare professionals to use with patients with asthma. The breath test can help healthcare professionals and patients make decisions about how best to manage a persons asthma. The test is not currently widely used in general practice and therefore clinicians also need training in how to use it and patients need information about what the test does. We have developed an intervention to deliver all these things and would like to assess how people use the intervention in real life. We will observe how it is used in 6 practices, 3 in phase 1 and 3 in phase 2 and will ask healthcare professionals and patients their views on using the intervention. Our findings will help us refine the intervention for future use in a clinical trial. The trial will test its effectiveness at improving patient's asthma.
