  • Research summary

This is an an observational, data collection study looking at records of South Asian patients who have a diagnosis of Crohn's disease and Perianal fistula. There are patient level differences including social stigma and lack of trust which may cause differences in care in Crohn`s disease patients However, the impact of ethnicity on diagnostic and treatment decisions has not been previously studied in South Asian IBD patients with perianal fistula. Identifying these may enable tailored interventions to improve care in these under-served populations.
In this case note review, we will identify the patients meeting the inclusion criteria from existing departmental clinical care records in participating sites. Data will be collected by the delegated members of the research team into an electronic case record form. We will collect data on the tests and treatments (medical and surgical ) which these patients received and compare this with established professional guidelines (British Society of Gastroenterology and European Crohn`s and Colitis guidelines ) and look at overall quality of care in relation to timeliness, appropriateness and outcomes. This data will be compared to Caucasian patients with the same condition managed in the same institution.
