Research summary
This study will create the first list of genes which cells prone to cancer cannot survive without. By identifying these weak points, what we call “the enemy of our enemies”, the research aims to uncover new ways to selectively eliminate dangerous pre-cancerous cells and improve cancer prevention for people at high genetic risk.
This study will be conducted at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, using human samples that have been collected with donors consent and ethical approval. Samples may come from both cancerous and non-cancerous tissues and from adults and children across a range of ages and populations. Donors who are suspected to have a cancer pre-disposition syndrome. And therefore high genetic risk, will be eligible to participate.
