Research summary
Hypospadias affects 1 in 250 males where they are born with their urethral opening a variable distance down the underside of the penis. It is controversial as to whether the smallest defects (where the opening is a few millimetres from the usual position) should be repaired surgically as around 10-15% of boys develop complications that require further surgery. A national outcomes audit for hypospadias was set up around 5 years ago and has collected, with parental consent, information about ~800 patients who have had a hypospadias repair in the UK. Parents also consented to use of their mobile phone numbers for follow up questionnaires. We wish to send a link to a well validated decision regret scoring system to determine if parents regret their son having surgery.
