Research summary
The focus of this research is to examine the processes that occur in the consultation team meetings among therapists providing Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). DBT is an intensive, 3-3.5 hour a week of direct contact, intervention offered to people who engage in self harm, are chronically suicidal and most probably have a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder. Therapists who provide DBT in a mode that is adherent to the evidence base, also meet as a consultation team for approximately 1.5 hours per week to support each other in this work and to apply the treatment to each other. DBT is one of the most studied psychotherapies, however, the consultation team aspect of the intervention has been the least studied aspect.
