  • Data collection arrangements

We will write to each participant of the SCOT trial and provide them with the results of the trial. At the same time, we will ask them if they would be willing to be contacted again by MEMO in the future should there be any clinical research studies that they may be suitable for.

The data we will collect from these individuals will be their name, home address and email address. They will be asked to provide these details at their own discretion either online via www.scottrial.co.uk or by returning a pre-populated document via a reply-paid envelope. If they do not wish to be contacted again then their data will not be added to the database.

  • Research programme

One of the greatest challenges in undertaking clinical research studies is the difficulty in recruiting adequate numbers of participants to effectively assess the research question. Therefore, this database of individuals, who have agreed to being contacted again in the future, will be able to contribute to future clinical studies should they further consent to take part. Summary of Results We wrote to 4656 participants who previously took part in the SCOT trial to inform them of the trial results. In the same letter we also asked if they would be willing to be contacted again by MEMO research about any potential research studies that they may be suitable for. Participants willing to be contacted either returned a paper response form or registered online at the study website. Participants provided their unique study ID from the SCOT study, their name, home address, and email address. 937 participants registered or provided their contact details.
