  • Research summary

This is an observational cohort study on factors associated with the risk of developing postoperative delirium (POD) and subsequent self-reported health related quality of life (HR-QoL) in cognitively intact people, age 65 years and above, undergoing hip fracture surgery.
The study aims to identify if the magnitude and direction of change in serum cytokine levels across the anaesthesia/surgical intervention is associated with the incidence of postoperative delirium and subsequent HR-QoL status. We will also assess the effect of retinal layer thickness and frailty, on the association between cytokine levels and POD. Finally we will assess the association between severity of POD and subsequent HR-QoL.
