Research summary
A study which will explore the views and experiences of young people (16-25 years) who have come to the UK as children to seek asylum, without an accompanying parent or carer (Children and Young People Seeking Asylum and Refugees - Unaccompanied).
This is a group of young people who are known to have high health needs and multiple vulnerabilities, but there is a need for more research exploring their direct perspectives on health and wellbeing.
We will explore what matters to these young people in the context of support for health and wellbeing. We will do this through focus groups and interviews. We will invite participants to discuss their own priorities for their health, and what good care looks like to help achieve these priorities. We will also explore participants’ perspectives on existing health recommendations made for them by professionals (for example blood tests and vaccinations), and on the records that are kept on them.
We will use what the participants tell us to develop key themes of what good care looks like. We will develop materials to share with young people and with professionals to guide practical improvements. We will also develop a list of key priorities and outcomes, which can be used in future research.
